5 Easy Ways to Improve Your Oral Health

America is currently in the grip of an oral health epidemic. One-third of all adults in America suffer from untreated tooth decay, while close to one in seven have gum disease.

Poor mouth health can lead to a huge range of health problems elsewhere in your body. By neglecting your oral health, you also risk problems with your heart, brain, nervous system, and countless other parts of your body.

It’s important to note that good teeth health does not require a lot of money or time. With a few very minor lifestyle changes, you can ensure healthy teeth at all ages.

1. Floss. Floss. Floss.

Your family dentist probably told you this when you were a kid, but it bears repeating.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of flossing to maintain good oral health. Flossing may actually be a lot more important than brushing your teeth.

It is the most effective way to prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar. Floss at least once a day, every day. If possible, use a dental pick or water pick instead of string floss.

2. Invest in a Good Toothbrush

It is not enough to brush your teeth every day. You need a high-grade toothbrush that will remove bacteria and plaque and keep your teeth and gums healthy. We do not recommend a particular brand.

However, an electronic toothbrush with soft bristles should be more than sufficient to keep your teeth in good condition.

3. Eat Better

What you eat and drink plays a huge role in your oral health. Obviously, avoiding sugar, soda, and coffee will help you maintain a perfect smile.

However, oral health goes further than that. You should have a balanced diet rich in nutrients that will boost your oral health over time.

This means choosing to eat more oily fish, leafy greens, grains, and vegetables. And, of course, if you still smoke, quit now.

4. Never Skip a Brush

You probably already know that you need to brush your teeth twice a day, for around two minutes at a time. This is not a lot of effort, and it will go a very long way towards preventing oral disease throughout your life.

In addition, you should brush your teeth right after you wake up in the morning, before breakfast. If you must brush after breakfast, wait at least 60 minutes after eating to do so.

5. Visit an Oral Health Professional

There is only so much you can do on your own. You should find a dentist near me that offers regular check-ups and emergency care when needed.

If you think something is wrong with your teeth, get in touch with an emergency dentist immediately who can treat you quickly.

The faster you act, the less likely it is that your dental problem will turn into a health problem.
