Check out these eye health tips to learn more.

1. Get the Right Vitamins

You’ll want to make sure you’re getting the right nutrients in your diet to maintain your eye health. Here are some of the nutrients you should start incorporating into your diet:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Gamma-Linolenic acid
  • Vitamin E
  • Riboflavin
  • Vitamin A
  • Niacin
  • Vitamin C
  • Zeaxanthin
  • Zinc
  • Lutein

If you’re having trouble getting these nutrients into your diet, you can try out various supplements.

2. Protect Your Eyes

There are many different strategies you can use to protect your eyes from the dangers of the world. You should be wearing sunglasses when you’re in direct sunlight, to protect yourself from UV rays.

If you play sports like racketball, that could endanger your eyesight. Make sure you protect your eyes with protective eyewear. If your job may cause hazardous materials to fly into your eyes, make sure that your workplace is providing you with the proper protection to keep yourself safe.

And, if you spend a lot of time on computers, you need to be sure to take plenty of breaks. At least once every twenty minutes is recommended for optimal protection. Blue light from your screens can cause you serious eye damage over time, so it’s important to protect yourself from them. You can do so by getting blue light filters for your screens or blue light lenses for your glasses.

If you regularly wear makeup, you should make sure you replace your eye makeup regularly. Old eye makeup can cause infections and other issues over time.

3. Watch Your Health Generally

Keeping yourself generally healthy will also help you keep your eyes in good shape. Exercise regularly, and get your regular eight hours of sleep each night. If you use nicotine products or smoke cigarettes, you should quit as soon as possible.

If you have a family history of eye problems, you’ll also need to take that into consideration. Discuss your specific family history with your doctor, to find out if there are any preventative steps you should be taking.

4. Go to an Eye Doctor

No matter what, you should be going to get your eyes checked regularly. Try and make an appointment with an optometrist at least once a year. If you have other issues, make an appointment with an ophthalmologist to learn more about your concerns.

And, make sure you’re going to the best optometrist for your needs. There’s no harm in looking for a second opinion if needed!
